Pulmonary embolism catheter and methods for use

Description:

Multi lumen infusion housing for single access intra arterial pulmonary emboli treatment with built in pressure monitoring

Sanford Tech ID: 0009-01

Invention Summary

0009-01 is a technology that allows for a single venous access site when infusing lytic agents into the pulmonary tree.    The housing can be advanced either over the wire but can also be advanced with the assistance of a sail balloon.  It also has a side port for easy selection of the contralateral pulmonary artery.  Once in place, the system has the option for a built in pressure monitoring system.

Value Proposition

*Allows for a single venous access reducing the risk of access site bleeding complication.

*Eases selection of the contralateral pulmonary artery, allowing for more efficient use of catheterization lab resources.

*Allows for intra arterial pressure monitoring so that the nurse monitoring the patient can alert the physician when pulmonary pressures return to normal.

Market Opportunity

In the US there are currently around 250,000 PE admissions per year.  According to current PE guidelines, about 25% of patients admitted with PE are eligible for interventional treatment.  Reimbursement is currently not a barrier to entry.  This device is contemplated to be compatible with all current infusion catheters.

Intellectual Property

Pending utility patent application in the US, Europe, Japan, and China.

Development Status

To date, prototypes have been built.  Next steps include creating a clinic ready product.
