Description:
Formulation for multi-inflation drug coated balloon

Sanford Tech ID: 0019-01
Background
The current technology for drug-coated balloons requires the use of multiple devices in order to treat the entire length of a lesion within a vessel such as the superficial femoral artery. The use of multiple devices increases costs, procedure time and risk of complications.
Technology Overview
This technology is a next generation drug coated balloon with a durable coating allowing it to release a sustained amount of drug over an extended period. This enables multiple inflations throughout the vessel with a single balloon, reducing the number of balloons used during a case and therefore decreasing the cost to the patient and the overall procedure time.
Value Proposition
*Allows for multiple inflations and treatment of multiple lesions with a single balloon.
*Allows for treatment of long diffuse lesions.
*Saves device changes in the catheterization lab.
*Saves the hospital money.
*Has minimal particulate formation, and the particulates that do form are degradable in blood.
Market Opportunity
• Expand the drug coated balloon technology to below-the-knee indication.
• Shift pricing dynamics in the drug coated balloon market.
• Reduce the number of embolic related complications.
Intellectual Property
There is a pending utility application in the US.
Development Status
Design specifications have been developed, prototypes have been built, and animal testing is underway. Our initial feasibility testing shows the ability to provide consistent drug delivery over multiple inflations.
Seeking
This technology has been licensed to a start-up technology development company called Tailored Medical Devices https://tailoredmedicaldevices.com/. The company is currently interested in partners who:
• Are interested in in-licensing a formulation for their angioplasty balloon.
• Co-development with a strategic partner or investor.
